Town’s youth marching on

Welshpool’s young rugby stars showed that they are North Wales force to be reckoned with after returning from Abergele with a hard fought 21-11 league win at the weekend.

The lads didn’t even let the fact that Wales were playing at exactly the same time against South Africa to distract them from the job in hand by overcoming a 11-7 deficit soon after the break to win.

Nick Butler got them off on the right foot with a try after 10 minutes, converted by Tom Williams, but two penalties before the break and a try soon after put Abergele in front.

But Welshpool fought back strongly with two well worked tries from Jack Lewis and, just before full time, captain Danny Williams with both converted by the trusty boot of Williams.

On Saturday, the youths face Colwyn Bay at home at 2.30pm.
