Carl Griffiths lands new manager's job

Former Welshpool Town, Shrewsbury, Leyton Orient and Manchester City striker Carl Griffiths has been named new manager of Ryman Premier League club Aveley.
Griffiths has been out of the game for 12 months since losing his job as manager of Brentwood Town
Since leaving Brentwood Town, the former Leyton Orient striker had been helping out Tony Fenn at Essex Senior League side Barkingside and although he is disappointed to be leaving the Oakside outfit, he felt he couldn’t turn down an opportunity to get back into management.
Griffiths brings with him his management team whilst he was at Brentwood, consisting of Scott Canham, Gary Foley, Harry McCullum and Dean Parratt as he immediately sets to work with the aim of getting the Millers off the bottom spot in the Ryman Premier.
“The backroom staff are all I had over at Brentwood Town, and I feel we all had a good relationship with each other so why break it up?" he told mywelshpool.co.uk.
The former Welsh under-21 international believes he has got what it takes to keep the side in the Premier and is keen to give all the current Aveley squad a chance to impress him with two training sessions before Wednesday’s game at Croydon Athletic.
“We have got 27 games left in the season and with that time I am quite confident I can keep the team in the Ryman Premier,” revealed Griffiths. “Hopefully after we acheive the main goal of staying in this division we can build on it and look forward to greater things.”
Griffiths started his career with Welshpool before joining Shrewsbury Town in 1988, and after five years he joined Manchester City. In 1995 he transferred to Portsmouth, moving on to Peterborough United a year later. He joined Leyton Orient in 1997, where he stayed for four years, interrupted by short spells at Wrexham and Port Vale.
He played for Luton Town between 2001 and 2003, later dropping into non-league football with Harlow Town, Braintree Town, Brentwood Town, and Maldon Town. He also represented Wales at under-21 level and also for the "B" team.
Within his three spells with Leyton Orient he achieved cult status and in 2004 received 9% of the vote for all-time cult hero behind Peter Kitchen and Terry Howard.
Turning to management in 2008, he took charge of Brentwood Town.
