Christmas has come early: Pritchard

Welshpool-based President of the Football Association of Wales, Phil Pritchard (right), has summed up the feelings of Wales’s army of success-starved sports fans by saying: “Christmas has come early!”

Pritchard was speaking after receiving a scouting report from last night’s Leicester v Nottingham Forest match where teenage sensation Aaron Ramsey made his long-awaited comeback from a leg break which also broke the hearts of Welsh sports fans back in February.

The 19 year-old came on as a 61st minute substitute for Forest where he has been shipped out to on loan to gain some match fitness and to accelerate his comeback for Premier League giants Arsenal.

“I think I speak for everyone involved with Welsh sport, not just football, that this was the best news you could give me for Christmas!” said Pritchard. “I have received a critical analysis from a scout at the game last night who said he is looking sharp and showing no signs of being worried about his injury.

“He is a big, big player for the future of Welsh football. This is very positive and it will make a big impact on the Welsh football scene as a whole.”

Welsh team sport is currently at its lowest point in a generation. The national football team fired manager John Toshack after a poor start to the Euro 2012 campaign and the rugby side is desperately struggling with just two wins in their last 13 tests.

Ramsey’s comeback last night was overshadowed by another Welsh international after Leicester’s Andy King grabbed the only goal in their 1-0 win.
