Aaron Ruff-cock top scored with 42 as Montgomery strengthened their position in Shropshire Division Two’s mid table.

Electing to bat, Montgomery made 159 from their 35 overs before struggling visitors Prees were dismissed for 121 with Ed Bennett taking 3-38.

Welshpool, meanwhile secured points in a winning draw at Shrewsbury III after setting a score of 176-9 to chase.

Tom Anderson (53), Roger Knight (43) and Dan Chodecki (38) got them on their way, but the bowlers couldn’t deliver the full points as the hosts held out on 117-5. Rob Pengelly did the most damage withy 4-19.

Guilsfield’s Division Four match at home to Acton Reynold was a victim of the weather as was Welshpool II’s match at home to Pontesbury II in Reserve Division Three.

But there were points galore for both Newtown II and Montgomery II in Reserve Division Three.

A tremendous fourth wicket stand between Jack Williams (69no) and James Corfield (66no) saw leaders Montgomery II through to victory at Shifnal 4th who had set a target of 170.

Meanwhile, Newtown II set 253 for Oswestry 4th to chase thanks largely to openers Jack Morris (91) and Dave Wilkinson (84). Brandon Baynham then took 5-14 to make short work of the visitors’ reply which finished on just 54.
