Should tomorrow’s match go ahead, two Technogroup Welshpool players in particular will be hoping to put one over their neighbours.
Mike Sawtell and Matty Newtown were released by Guilsfield last month as manager Russell Cadwallader trimmed the squad he inherited from Mike Barton. And the pair did not travel far by joining the Chris Herbert (right) revolution three miles up the road.
With the inactivity due to the weather, both would be making their starting debuts if the manager puts them in his first XI.
“They are both pumped up for this game and want to prove a point to Guilsfield for releasing them,” said Herbert who believes the match is there to be won.
“This game is massive to us, if we are to look at surviving we need to be beating sides like Guilsfield who are in the bottom half of the table,” he said: “For me there is no easy game in this league any more. It’s the best Alliance I’ve known, but with Guilsfield in and around us it’s very important we don’t lose.
“They have a few decent players who we will be keeping a close eye on. In Ross Frame they have a match winner. It’s no secret of my interest in signing him, as he is a good striker, and I think he will go on to bigger things. Also I like Rob Cookson; he is good on the ball and can deliver a nice cross if on the wing.
“But we too have our own match winners, and I feel we do have extra quality to them. Wes Kilgannon, James Hussaney and Jack Pickering will be key to us winning this match. I do have a game plan and if we keep to it, I’m very confident we can win.”
