Welshpool run riot

06/10/2015 @ 01:38

Forget Wales and the lack of tries for the bonus point against Fiji, Welshpool showed the way two days later with a massive 14-try haul against Holyhead.

The 86-0 slaughter moved Welshpool up to fourth in Division Three (north) and underlined their potential this season as a force to be reckoned with ahead of a showdown with second placed Llangollen on Saturday.

Five first half tries from Andrew Jones, Ryan Manuel, Matt Roberts, Jordan Harding and Tom Williams combined with a brace of Andrew Thomas conversions gave Welshpool a comfortable 29-0 lead at the break.

But despite lulls in the second half, Welshpool continued to rack up the points with Harry Trow (2), Ben Astley and Paul Davies all coming off the bench to score. Roberts added a second try to his account, whilst Ben Huband scored his first try for the senior side. Joe Stranks capped off the performance with three tries and Thomas booted another six conversions to give 'Pool a comprehensive victory.
Meanwhile, the Youths lost 31-14 at a talented Llanidloes Youth side.

Despite taking an early 14-0 lead through tries for Ethan Edge and Meical Jones, with conversions courtesy of Dan Earle, Welshpool were unable to hold their lead after injury left them at a man disadvantage for a long period of the match.

With an away trip to Rhyl to look forward to this coming weekend, the boys will be looking to secure their first win of the season against the team sitting fifth in the table after a win and a defeat so far.

Under 12s Festival @ COBRA

Welshpool's Under 12s went to COBRA in good numbers and high spirits, and came back with three wins out of four games.

Travelling with 23 players, they were in a position to lend out players to other sides as needed, ensuring plenty of game time for all.

They opened their day with a 25-10 win over Llanidloes, before beating Dolgellau 25-0 and Bala 25-10. In their final game of the day, they came out narrow losers against COBRA, going down 5-10.
