COUPLES (111)

The first time we have seen an ebtry of over 100 ewes with their lambs this year, but they were sold to a more difficult trade, which could probably be explained by the current weather conditions and many farmers still not sending couples out to grass. WA & EM Morris, Maestanyglwyden, again held top spot for 4 Texel ewes with twin Texel lambs that reached £155. DTM Jones, Minffordd sold two pens of 3 year old mules with their twin Texel lambs for £152 and £148 respectively. Other twins traded from £120 to £145 with the poorest twins selling to £100 to £118.

This week’s best singles sold to £109 with many over £100, the majority traded between £80 - £100.

More couples and in-lamb ewes expected next week, with the next catalogued sale of couples to take place on Monday 20th March. Please contact the mart office for entries.

IN-LAMBS EWES

The catalogued sale bought with it an increased entry of 134 in-lamb ewes that went under the hammer to a maximum clearance. A special entry of 76 hardy in-lamb yearling mules from Rhiwlas Farm, Rhiwlas, scanned with the majority carrying singles to a Lleyn ram hit £102, with the run averaging £89. Two pens of 7 full mouth mules from EG & SA Watkin, Pantyfalog, scanned twins to Texel x Charollais rams both sold for £78 respectively.
