Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a sale at Buttington Cross, Welshpool on Monday.

OTMS (32)

Otm cows topped at £1442.57 (181ppkg) for a 797kg Limousin from CV & EM Lewis, Buttington New Hall. Also from the same home was another Limousin otm cow weighing 800kg making £1400 (175ppkg). JE & DM Rogers, Red House, presented a younger Limousin cow weighing 699kg making £1349.07 (193ppkg).

Otm Cows (x23) averaged 132.44ppkg / £926.19.

Cows 48 – 72 months (x5) averaged 168.64ppkg / £1213.18.

Heifers under 48 months (x1) averaged 155ppkg / £922.25.

Steers under 48 months (x2) averaged 137.51ppkg / £963.95.

Overall average of 137.98ppkg – MORE CATTLE WANTED TO MEET DEMAND.

PRIME LAMBS (3893)

An entry of 3893 Prime Lambs sold to an average of 226.51ppkg.

Lights (462) to 236ppkg from D & G Andrew, Lower Brynygroes. Others to 224ppkg from E W Howells, Esgair Yr Hydd. Average of 215.81ppkg.

Standards (1136) to 310ppkg from JA Smith, Cae Gwyn. Others to 304ppkg from DWP Griffiths, Park Lodge. Average of 224.42ppkg.

Mediums (2062) to 284ppkg from R A Jones, Red Gwenthrew. Others to 280ppkg from S Smith, Pentre Farm Cottage. Average of 229.27ppkg.

Heavies (154) to 266ppkg from PA Lloyd & TS Wierzbinski, Cartref. Others to 259ppkg from JM & SM Rowlands, Dolwen Farm. Average of 234.22ppkg.

CULL SHEEP (3232)

A big show of cull sheep yesterday saw impressive averages of £63.50 for ewes and £81 for rams. Topping the ewe section at £124 was T K Robinson, Tynewydd, with a pen of 12 ewes. HM Powell & Son, Whitehouse, sold 3 ewes for £121. Rams topped at £130 from DJ & MY Evans, Tandderi.

COWS & CALVES

AN entry of 31 cows and calves this week which topped at £2350 for a Limousin x 1st calver with a Limousin heifer calf from DP & RE Evans, Moel-Y-Garth. A Red Limousin x 1st calver with her Heifer calf from the same home made £2240. S Watkin, Mount Nebo, presented a British Blue x 1st calver with her Limousin x bull calf making £2020. F J Owens & Co, Lletygynfach, presented 8 outfits which were all Blonde D’Aquitaine cows and calves making a top of £1660 for a 2012 born cow. AT & EA Edwards, Glanaber, presented a 2 year old Pedigree Limousin Bull making £2500.

A breakdown of all prices achieved were as follows: £2000 + 4 lots, £1800 - £2000 2 lots, £1600 - £1800 5 lots, £1400 - £1600 12 lots, £1200 -£1400 6 lots.

STORE CATTLE

An entry of 93 store cattle yesterday saw averages of 224.11ppkg or £987 per head for steers and heifers averaged 226.19ppkg or £881 per head.
