Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a sale at Buttington Cross, Welshpool on Monday.

OTMS (25)

Similar entry of otms this week to last topping at £1088.88 (156ppkg) for a 698kg British blue otm from G I Francis & Co, The Bryn. Bowen & Bowen, Penthryn, presented a 613kg Limousin otm making £1072.75 (175ppkg). Younger cows topped at £990.40 (160ppkg) for a British Blue 40 month old cow weighing 619kg from G & A Orrells, Maesderwen. Heifers under 48 months topped at £1034.62 (179ppkg) for a 578kg limousine from RE & L Jones, Farchwel.

Section round-up

Otm Cows (19) averaged 131.85ppkg / £847.77.

Cows 48 – 72 months (x3) averaged 136.29ppkg / £808.64.

Heifers under 48 months (x2) averaged 154.65ppkg / £840.53.

Bulls under 72 months (x1) averaged 118ppkg / £1182.36.

Overall average of 133.02ppkg

An entry of 5649 prime lambs with an average of 190.69ppkg.

Lights (280) to 191ppkg from HI & LJ Lloyd, Weirglodd-Deg. Others to 190ppkg from K Jones, Delfryn. Average of 176.70ppkg.

Standards (1118) to 223ppkg from Red House Farm, Aberhafesp. Others to 214ppkg from Red House Farm, Aberhafesp. Average of 186.57ppkg.

Mediums (2697) to 275ppkg & 271ppkg from S Smith, Pentre Farm Cottage. Others to 242ppkg from JR, RM & JP Andrew, Bronheulog. Average of 190.95ppkg.

Heavies (1364) to 259ppkg from EH Pennie & Son, Gwern-Yr-Ychain. Others to 228ppkg from DA & SJ Jones, Dyffryn. Average of 195.05ppkg.

Over Weights (138) to 219ppkg from B Powell, Gilfach-Y-Rhiw. Others to 217ppkg from T & B Williams, Cilmawr. Average of 192.22ppkg.

CULL SHEEP (3588)

An entry of 3559 Cull Sheep, cull ewes averaged £53.22 which was up £6 on last week, strong mules and mule cross ewes were in demand. Texel ewes were very much sought after, peaking at £140 presented by RA, Davies, Llwynderw. A slight shortage of cull rams was apparent; an entry of 25 achieved an average of £105 peaking at £160 presented by D.R.E Jones, Offa Farm, Montgomery. STORE LAMBS (500)

An entry of 500 store lambs this week topping at £71 for 15 Texel x tup lambs from C E & R Emberton, Coedtafol. 21 Texel x wether lambs from JT Lewis, Trawscoed, made £60.50.

Averages for the day were: Theave Lambs £48.77, Mixed/Clean Lambs £51.03, Wether Lambs £44.02,

Tup Lambs £49.80.

BREEDING EWES

A Small entry of 160 breeding ewes this week with our catalogued sale returning next week with a good entry of 1000 ewes. Todays sale saw prices peak at £148 twice for two pens of 10 Suffolk x yearlings from RF & DJ Price, Pentrenant. A H Jones & Sons, Hirrhyd, sold 20 Suffolk x yearlings for £139 and £136 with NE Hughes, 20 Rorrington, selling Suffolk x yearlings to £138. 3 year old Suffolk ewes from RG & JL Peate, Cwmderw, peaked at £120 with full mouth ewes from the same home selling to £120.

Catalogued sale next Monday 14th August to commence at 11.30 am in ring 4.Catalogues available from mart office.

Averages:

Yearlings averaged £136 topping at £148.

Two year olds averaged £100.

Three Year olds averaged £89.

Full mouth Averaged £95.

COWS & CALVES

21 cows and calves forward met with a sound trade for the cows on offer. An entry of 12 cows and calves from E Evans & co, Bodilan Fawr, sold to a top of £1650 for a 2011 born Limousin x cow with a Limousin bull calf at foot. Two other cows 1 Limousin x cow and a Hereford x cow both with Limousin bull calves at foot sold for £1500. Overall the 12 outfits averaged £1375.

A Blonde x cow with a Blonde bull calf from F J Owens & Co, Llettygynfach, made £1500. Three British Blue x 1st calvers with Limousin x calves at foot from B Jones & Son, Cwmtrefarlo, sold from £1420 to £1500. Presented by TS Morgan, Glanhafon farm, sold 2 British Blue x 1st calvers with Limousin calves at foot to average £1400.

A breakdown of all prices achieved were as follows: £1600 + 1lot, £1500 - £1600 4 lots, £1400 - £1500 6 lots, £1300 - £1400 6 lots, < £1300 4 lots.
