Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a sale at Buttington Cross, Welshpool on Monday.
OTMS (26)
A smaller entry of otm cows this week topping at £1407.66 (174ppkg) for a 809kg Limousin from E H Pennie & Son, Gwern Yr Ychain. Also from Messrs Pennie was a 806kg Limousin making £1386.32 (172ppkg).JG & MWA Clayton, Great Brimmon, presented a Limousin otm weighing 712kg making £1068 (150ppkg). Cows 48 to 72 moths topped at £1099.64 (148ppkg) for a British Blue weighing 743kg.
Cows 48 – 72 months (x2) averaged 143.02ppkg / £1058.35.
Bulls under 72 months (x1) averaged 118ppkg / £1003.
Overall average of 128.89ppkg.

An entry of 4978 prime lambs met with an average of 166.11ppkg.
Lights (684) to 163ppkg from W H Edwards & Co, Highgate. Others to 161ppkg from R L Davies, Trawsgelli. Average of 142.95ppkg.
Standards (1262) to 197pkg from L B Owen, Garth Vaughan. Others to 188ppkg from Red House Farm, Aberhafesp. Average of 163.42ppkg.
Mediums (1685) to 235ppkg from W K Davies, Offas Way & B L Griffiths, Lower Penygelli. Others to 233ppkg from Red House Farm. Average of 174.33ppkg.
Heavies (1094) to 248ppkg from M & H Owens, Glantre. Others to 205ppkg from T & A & R Tudor, Llysun. Average of 167.03ppkg.
Over Weights (162) to 222pkg from Red House Farm, Aberhafesp. Others to 162ppkg from R J Lunt, Planfa. Average of 149.28ppkg.
CULL SHEEP (3230)
A large entry of 3086 cull ewes yesterday achieved an average of £39. Larger well fleshed ewes were still very much in demand, ewes peaked at £122 from G & S Jones, Bryneithin. A large entry of ewes from Owen, Sandilands, reached £94.50. D I Roberts & Son, Stingwern, sold ewes to £93 for a pen of well finished mule ewes. An entry of 126 cull rams averaged £72.88.

STORE LAMBS (1276)
A Good entry of 1276 store lambs this week topped at £78 for 4 Texel tup lambs from TE Brown, Hafod. Theave lambs topped at £67 for Texels from Gareth Owen, Tanycoed. Mixed and clean lambs topped at £61 for 18 Beltex lambs from Gittins & Co, Giants Bank.
Averages of the day:

Tup lambs (485): £44.92
Wether lambs (61) : £51.03.
BREEDING EWES
An entry of 776 breeding sheep that was dominated by over half the entry being ewe lambs again sold to an easier trade with top price hitting £122 and £120 for white faced Mule Yearlings. M A Andrews, Tycerrig, sold Texel yearlings to £120. Most yearlings traded between £90 and £120 to average £104.
Ewe lambs sold to £92 from F & MJ Williams, Cefngwilgy fach, for 10 pure bred Texels. JT Jones, Tynewydd Cyffin, sold Texels to £90 and £86.
More breeding ewes and ewe lambs expected next Monday – sale to commence at 11.30am.
COWS & CALVES
An entry of 24 cows and calves this week topping at £2100 for a Pedigree Limousin cow with a Limousin bull calf pd’ back in calf from M & G Roberts, Myfyrian Isaf. Also from the same home was another Limousin cow with a Limousin bull calf making £1760. RP & DM Jenkins, Upper Llifior, presented a British Blue 1st calver with a Limousin x heifer calf making £1750.
Breakdown of all prices were as follows: £2000 + 1 lot, £1600 - £2000 4 lots, £1400 - £1600 6 lots, £1200 - £1400 4 lots, £1000 - £1200 5 lots, < £1000 2 lots.
