Dynamic new market plan for town

A dynamic proposal to create a full-time walkthrough market that links the Tesco Retail Park with the town centre looks set to go ahead.

The move would see the traders currently located in the Town Hall moved to specially made cabins constructed on Church Street Car Park alongside the path that thousands of people tread every day to get into town (pictured).

The project was discussed in a meeting between town and county councillors, and was backed by all parties as a priority project for 2018.

“This was a great opportunity to set out the town council plans so that the two authorities can work together to achieve them,” said Cllr Steve Kaye, the Mayor. “It was a very constructive and purposeful meeting.”

It is thought that funding is already in place so once the green light is given work can begin with the project being in place and operational in the spring.

Once the traders have switched, the Town Council could look to move its offices to the Town Hall for the first time, saving on rent currently paid for their premises on the Back Road.
