Award for Welshpool firm

Morland, Welshpool-based fit-out products manufacturer, has won a prestigious national award from the British Woodworking Federation (BWF).

The firm won the Process Efficiency award, sponsored by W20, for its work designing Forever Firecheck®, a new kind of intumescent strip for fire doors.

Now in their 10th year, the BWF Awards celebrate the best of the best in UK woodworking, recognising technical innovation, design, process efficiencies, health and safety and the rising stars of the industry.

Intumescent strips for fire rated doors are traditionally encapsulated in plastic and manually fitted. Through the design of Forever Firecheck®, Morland have eradicated the need for plastic, resulting in a more resilient and attractive product that can be fitted using wrap technology.

By using their wrapping technology, Morland can fit intumescent strips at 25m per minute compared to just 8m through traditional methods.

Andrew Warren, commercial director at Morland (centre of picture), said: “We’ve had a great evening. It’s taken us two years to develop our product and it’s involved a lot of people and testing. We didn’t get it right first time, so we had to work out why - we got everybody back, we tested again, we passed, and now have a certified product - so it feels really good to win this award.”

The prize was presented at a glittering awards evening held at Stationer’s Hall in central London.
