A former head teacher and education officer with 15 years’ experience has been appointed Head of Schools by Powys County Council.
Ian Roberts of Tregynon near Newtown, who had been Interim Head of Schools since April 2013, was appointed to the post by the county council. He takes up his new post immediately.
Originally from Machynlleth, Ian was educated at Ysgol Bro Ddyfi and Bangor Normal College. He is married with two grown up children, one is a midwife and the other is in university. His wife is deputy head teacher at Ladywell Green in Newtown.
Before joining Powys County Council as a school improvement officer in 1999, he had taught at a number of primary schools and spent six years as head teacher at Maesyrhandir CP School in Newtown.
When not working Ian enjoys all sports, particularly golf, and reading.
Cabinet Member for Education and Children’s Services, Councillor Myfanwy Alexander said: “Ian has proved himself to be a strong and focussed leader for the Schools Service through a period of considerable uncertainty.
"He has a vision for the future of Powys Schools and under his direction, I am confident that the authority will be able to support our schools to provide our learners with the first-class education they deserve.”
