Christmas Lights on December 1

30/10/2017 @ 09:22

Christmas will officially get underway in Welshpool on December 1.

The lights, which started to be put into place over the weekend, will be switched on at 6:30pm sparking a weekend Winter Festival that will give Christmas its official launch in the town.

The evening will start at 6pm in the Town Hall’s Corn Exchange with free children’s craft sessions and a community stall. At 6:20pm, the procession leaves the Tourist Information Centre led by the Newtown Youth Band and includes Father Christmas on his sleigh and reindeer. It will arrive at the Town Hall for the switch to be flicked by the Carnival Queen, Macie Lockwood. Following the lights, kids can meet Father Christmas in his grotto at the Town Hall (free entry).

On the following day, the Winter Festival will be held from 10am-4pm with street stalls along High Street and Broad Street and music from the Salopian Brass outside the Town Hall. Over 40 Craft and Charity Stalls will be present inside the Town Hall.

In Puzzle Square, there will be a Petting Zoo and music throughout the day.
