First Minister appoints new Ministerial team
First Minister of Wales, Carwyn Jones, has announced his new Ministerial team, which provides a balance of experience and stability, with new drive and energy.
First Minister Carwyn Jones said: “I am proud to announce my new Ministerial team, which provides a balance of experience and stability, with new drive and energy.
“This strong team will drive forward our ambitious plans for Wales – focusing on growing the Welsh economy, creating jobs, supporting our public services and improving the day-to-day lives of the people of Wales.”
Welsh experience on offer to help England with changes to their organ donation system
Health Secretary Vaughan Gething has written to the Secretary of State for Health, Jeremy Hunt offering Welsh Government support and advice to inform changes to the organ donation system in England.
Vaughan Gething said: “I’m extremely proud of what we’ve achieved so far and along the way we have gained a wealth of experience in implementing our own opt out system in Wales. We are on standby to help England in any way we can as they take forward legislation on this important issue.”
Wales continues to bathe in excellent waters
New statistics published show 99% of Welsh bathing water has complied with tough European standards.
Welcoming the results Cabinet Secretary for Environment and Rural Affairs Lesley Griffiths said: “Wales has some of the most beautiful coastline which attracts thousands of visitors every year. Maintaining our bathing waters to these high standards is essential if we are to continue selling Wales as a holiday destination.
“A healthy environment helps to sustain our economy and improves our quality of life. With clean bathing waters, our coast and natural environment will continue to provide huge benefits to people across Wales – from rural West Wales to more urban South Wales.”
New organ donation campaign highlights a family’s role in the process
The Welsh Government has launched a major new campaign focusing on the role of families in the organ donation process.
Health Secretary Vaughan Gething said: “We want to encourage everyone across Wales to talk with their loved ones about their organ donation decision. We know awareness and understanding is increasing, but it is really important we reach the Welsh public on this issue.”
New powers not so fly for offenders
Councils in Wales are now able to issue fines for fly-tipping incidents.
Cabinet Secretary for Environment and Rural Affairs, Lesley Griffiths said: “I am sure Local Authorities and communities will welcome these new powers. However, I feel it is important Local Authorities accompany these new powers with the appropriate level of public engagement, awareness raising and wider education programmes. I believe this is essential to ensure a positive response from the public and a sustainable reduction in offending behaviour.”
£2.4 million boost to build better destinations
Economy Secretary, Ken Skates has announced that £2.4 million is being offered to 26 projects across Wales which will improve the experience visitors have in Wales.
Cabinet Secretary, Ken Skates, said: “The funding has provided a great opportunity for local partners to identify a cluster of products which can really make a difference. Visitors expect the best quality in all aspects of their visit from the accommodation through to information provision, toilets and parking. The management of our tourism destinations is key if we are continue delivering a high quality visitor experience in line with our strategic ambitions - this funding is another building block to create better destinations.”
