Dramatic rescue for patient

04/03/2018 @ 08:46

Police were forced to bring in the North East Wales Search & Rescue team following an emergency call to a remote home near Welshpool today.

Low cloud and fog meant that the Wales Air Ambulance was unable to reach a seriously ill patient from their remote home with heavy snow blocking roads in the area so the Search & Rescue Team was called in.

The team took to social media saying: “Our snow related calls continued this afternoon with a request from Dyfed Powys Police to evacuate a patient with a serious medical condition from their remote home near Welshpool.

“In these circumstances a helicopter would be the best choice, but with low cloud and fog neither the Coastguard or Air Ambulance could assist. So it was back to good old fashioned stretcher work, before being put in our Land Rover to be taken to Welshpool for handover to the Welsh Ambulance Service.

“Thanks to Severn Trent Water for the work with their snow plough that got us a lot closer and to some members of the public that assisted too. We hope the casualty gets well soon.”
