Countdown to arrival of Knife Angel in Newtown

Excitement is mounting in Newtown for the arrival of The Knife Angel on Friday, January 3 ready to be set up for the opening ceremony on Saturday at 12pm.

“Everybody is welcome to attend it will be located outside the Oriel Davies Galley which is a short walk from the town centre,” Powys County Councillor Joy Jones, who has organised the visit. 

“The British Ironwork Centre, along with  the artist Alfie Bradley created this important piece to help raise awareness and support anti-violence of all kinds,” she added. “Powys is the first county in Wales to have a visit from the Knife Angel

“It will be here for the month of January giving people time to visit and appreciate the work that has gone into the monument and understand the message it bring of anti-violence

“There will be various education events supporting the visit along with many organisations who are getting involved in this special visit. 

“If any groups or organisations would like to be involved in any way please contact us. 

“I would like to thank Dafydd Llywelyn, Dyfed-Powys Police and Crime Commissioner, for the support in bringing the Knife Angel to Powys. 

“This has been a very exciting and busy six weeks trying to pull this visit together. 

“The Knife Angel visit is been supported by Powys County Council along with Newtown town council 

“I would also like to thank so many from the community who have helped donate thing toward the event as this has made it a truly exciting project with community support. 

“On Thursday we need volunteers to help erect the marquee so if you are willing to lend a hand for a couple of hours could you message us on the Knife Angel Powys facebook page or for futher infomaaation email joy.jones399@gmail.com 

“Come along to the opening event where Clive Knowles from the British Ironworks will be available to explain the importance of the Knife Angel. 

“Dafydd Llywelyn will be with us along with the Leader of Powys County Councillor Cllr Rosemaire Harris.”
