Children across Powys are being encouraged to join the Wild World Heroes for the Summer Reading Challenge and discover how they can make a difference to the environment too.
The Reading Agency have partnered with WWF for a nature-themed challenge featuring amazing books and plenty of ideas on how to take care of our environment.
There are several ways to get involved:
Cllr Rachel Powell, Portfolio holder for Young People, Culture and Leisure, said: “The Summer Reading Challenge is a great way to get children and young people interested in reading for pleasure and keeping reading skills on track over the school holidays.
“This year’s theme encourages conversations about climate change and tackling real-world environmental issues, from plastic pollution and deforestation to wildlife decline and nature loss.
“The summer holidays are an ideal time, to enjoy the outdoors and make the most of our greenspaces, whilst reading about our wildlife and the environment.”
The reading challenge is aimed at children aged between four and 11 years.
Once signed up to the challenge, each child will receive a free collector's folder and once they have read their 6 books will receive their stickers to complete the folder.
Everyone who completes their personal reading challenge at the end of the summer, will receive a certificate and a medal.
