Powis Castle has started its ‘big trim’ to prepare its pristine hedgerows for autumn.

With the arrival of September, the team of gardeners will need to get round more than 8,500 square metres of formal hedging, not to mention the 14 yew tumps and 14m-high Top Terrace hedge which create another 7,000 square metres of clipping!

“If you're visiting over the next few weeks, see if you can spot the vast array of spirit levels and winches our team use to ensure precision sharp corners and beautifully level sides,” said a spokesperson.
