Insight into a slice of Welshpool history

A talk is being delivered on Monday to reveal the medieval monastic life at Strata Marcella, a Cistercian monastery situated at on the west bank of the River Severn, near Welshpool.

It will be delivered by Amy Reynolds, a PHD researcher into medieval Welsh history at Bangor University.

It was founded in 1170 by Owain Cyfeiliog, Prince of Powys, and during the Owain Glyndwr rising at the beginning of the 15th century, the buildings were heavily damaged and the monastery never completely recovered.

The event is place at the Corn Exchange in Welshpool Town Hall from 7pm and can be booked by calling 01938 553001 or emailing ylanfa@powys.gov.uk.
