Welshpool counting down for Festival return

Welshpool is preparing for a new look Winter Festival and Christmas lights switch-on this Saturday when the town centre will be closed off to traffic from 3pm-9pm.

The town will be getting into the festive spirit with a day of events that will include indoor and outdoor market stalls to run alongside the established local businesses.

The Town Council promises that there will be “plenty for everyone” with the Christmas lights set to be be switched on at 6pm when it is hoped “some local celebrities” will join Santa, the Town Mayor and the winner of the design a Christmas light competition to flick the switch.

This is preceded by Santa arriving after a short procession through the town.

“There will be various attractions and entertainment in the street and on the stage to keep everyone busy,” said a Town Council spokesperson.

“If you are a school, dance group or community organisation and would like to perform a 20-30 minute slot between the times of 3.30pm-8:30pm, then please get in touch. If you are a singer or in a band which would like to perform after 7pm, then also let us know.”

Meanwhile, Santa’s grotto will be open in the indoor market. Each child will receive a special gift from Santa, all free of charge.
