While most of us will be doing our best to stay wrapped up and warm at the moment, one hearty Guilsfield woman has been stripping off and jumping into ice-cold waters to raise nearly £1,000 for charity!
Jane Nash said she was inspired to start cold water dips after seeing “lots of inspiring posts on Instagram”, so decided to join a local group started by two friends that is appropriately named the Red Breasts Cold Water Dipping Group.
She has been dipping at locations across the area since and decided to complete 10 dips during November's Pancreatic Awareness Month to raise money in memory of her mother, who passed away 10 years ago.
“I am really over the moon and so pleased to have done this in memory of mum so a huge thanks to everyone that’s supported me,” said Jane.
Cold water dips are proven to cause positive health impacts, but they come with an element of risk so Jane offered some firm advice to anyone new to it.
“I’ve dipped in various locations but always safely and took notice of weather/water conditions,” she said. “Belonging to a local cold-water dipping group means we follow a code of conduct to ensure it is done safely."
As the month drew to a close, Jane had raised a whopping £900 towards research and awareness of this devastating disease.
