Gallery launches anniversary Night of Art and Music

A Llanfyllin gallery has confirmed a double dose of pre-Christmas cheer to celebrate their first anniversary.

Awen, on Narrow Street, has launched its ‘Night of Art and Music’ run which begins at the gallery with the launch of the ‘Prints of Wales’ group show which features works by many artists of note.

The exhibition runs from today (Thursday) through to Sunday, January 25, and there is a launch/private view on Saturday night from 6pm-7.45pm.

This will then move immediately on Saturday to ‘A Night of Ancient and Traditional Welsh Instruments’ at the Cross Keys, Llanfyllin.

The programme will start with a brief history and making of the instruments by luthier, Richard Stephenson of Bardic Traditional Instruments, followed by musical performances.

Two of the finest exponents of their instruments will play live; Cass Meurig on crwth and Stephen Rees on pibgorn (pipehorn). Could Mr. Stephenson also be tempted to pick up one of his harps too?

It will be a totally acoustic experience without the aid of speakers, amps or even microphones.

The evening runs from 8pm-11pm. Tickets are £10 and are available from Awen, the Cross Keys or on the door.

Awen is open from Thursday-Saturday (10am-5pm) and Sunday from 10am-4pm.
