A sixth former’s mission to create a positive impact upon his local environment with a strong community connection has taken root in Guilsfield.
Caleb Rees has dug in, literally, to make a difference in the village and after receiving 25 saplings donated by Dingle Nurseries, he set about planting them on public areas across the village.
But one of the plantings had a lovely touch of poignancy, marking the contribution of local builder Colin Brown who sadly passed away last year.
Mr Brown was instrumental in creating the village’s Jubilee Hut for the Millennium and his widow, Hayley, and son Dan, joined Matthew and Liz Kneale, who have also been key to the facility’s success, and Powys County Councillor Ian Harrison in helping Caleb to plant an oak sapling there.
“It’s great to see our youngsters take on these initiatives and make a positive contribution to our community and environment,” said Cllr Harrison.
“It was special to plant a tree in memory of Colin in recognition of his role in creating a piece of Guilsfield history.”
