Residents are being encouraged to discover affordable, convenient and greener ways to travel this September as Powys County Council backs Catch the Bus Month and the upcoming World Car Free Day.

The council is promoting its 50 bus routes across Powys, highlighting that the X75, which can be used to travel from Newtown to Aberystwyth is just £4.

The refurbished Powys buses have upgraded audio-visual announcements, USB charging ports and more comfortable seating.

September 22 is World Car Free Day, a global initiative which encourages people to leave their cars at home and choose sustainable travel options.

Cllr Jackie Charlton, Cabinet Member for a Greener Powys, said: “Catch the Bus Month is a great opportunity to try a local bus service and discover just how easy and affordable public transport can be. Every journey made by bus helps reduce congestion and emissions while supporting a greener Powys.

“My husband is a regular passenger on the excellent bus service near us. He finds it a great way to meet people and catch up with the local gossip!”

Residents are encouraged to leave the car at home, give the bus a try this September and see where Powys’ bus network can take them.
