Welshpool set for another 1940s Weekend

Welshpool is ready to welcome visitors and participants from across the country to the 1940s Weekend, which will be happening with the incredible Longest Yarn exhibition ongoing at the Town Hall this weekend.

Created as a full weekend of entertainment back in 2016, the 1940s Weekend has turned into an important fixture on the town’s social and events calendar, and this weekend’s edition looks set to be a cracker.

“It doesn't seem five minutes since the clocks were turned back for last year’s Welshpool 1940s Weekend never mind this year’s event which begins on Friday,” joked lead organiser Alan Crowe, who is also behind the Welshpool residence for the Longest Yarn, which is a tremendous depiction of World War II through the knitting needles of Britain.

There's a reminder too that Broad Street and High Street will be closed to traffic from the Cross to Jehu road from 8am until 6pm on both Saturday and Sunday.

Once again, Seven Stars carpark will be home to a full-size Spitfire, an M10 Tank Destroyer, a Valentines Tank, vintage and militaria stalls.

Vintage performers including Jeep Johnson, The Ronnies, Harmony Belles and others will be entertaining on the street both days. There will be an exhibition in New Street Chapel.

Friday evening will see the Swing Commanders in the Church House followed on Saturday evening by the Blitz Ball with the Ashby Little Big Band. Tickets for both nights are available on the door and those attending can bring their own drinks.
