A drone spotted flying over rural homes in the area has raised the alarm that thieves may be taking to our local air space prior to stealing items, including pets.
One reader spotted the drone flying over Upper Sarnau, close to Arddleen, on Friday and whilst reporting to the police he was told that it was a believed that thieves were using them locally for surveillance prior to stealing items from properties.
Dyfed-Powys Police has not confirmed, but they did acknowledge: “Police received a call late Friday afternoon reporting that a drone was flying over property near Llanymynech. The call has been logged.”
However, next door North Wales Police have issued the following alert this week.
“We are having reports of drones being seen flying over farms in the Denbighshire area over the last few days, with no reason to be there.
“We are investigating links with people possibly using the drones for surveillance prior to stealing items from farms.”
Drones, like the one pictured, can be fitted with a camera to capture clear photos of locations and can also relay real time footage.
It is illegal to operate drones in built up areas without a license, however they are popular with estate agents.
