Welshpool on list of ‘world’s exemplary short golf courses’

We’ve been telling the world for years, but finally the world seems to have accepted that Welshpool Golf Club really is one of the finest on the planet.

Its stunning location offers incredible panoramic views across North and Mid Wales, and with it never looking in better condition, influential web site golf.com has provided an incredible boost.

The site has listed the club in its 25 exemplary sub-6,000-yard courses, compiled by their top 100 Course panellists and staffers. It also included the picture featured above.

The courses were chosen for “filling a multitude of critical roles, none more important than as relaxed places to learn the game”.

The courses, golf.com said, are, by definition, more manageable in length. But that doesn’t mean they lack challenge.

Welshpool takes its place alongside courses like Kobe Golf Club in Japan, Goat Hill Park in California and Arrowtown Golf Club, in New Zealand.

The site’s expert analysis described the 5,846-yard course as: “A true old-school European test, Welshpool Golf Club was founded in 1929, but its history dates back to the late 19th-century. Golfers are greeted by a timeless test, rife with ditches, meandering greens and pot bunkers.”
