Morrisons go the extra mile throughout pandemic

The pandemic has brought the best out of many local businesses, and staff at Morrisons have certainly gone the extra mile to help the community through the past year.

As Covid-19 took a grip and our freedoms disappeared almost a year ago, the supermarket giant jumped into action to ensure that food reached the most needy as well as those who were unable to shop due to isolating or fulfilling key roles that meant limiting contact.

But as well as providing a door step delivery service, the store has provided a pallet of food a week to the Welshpool food bank, whilst enabling customers to buy an extra ‘pick-up pack’ which is then placed in the food bank basket.

They have also donated food to the local emergency services, medical centres, the staff at Boots and Rowlands, local care homes, meals on wheels and Welshpool hospital.

Schools have also benefited from the store’s community champions with toys, books, snacks and drinks donated to a number of nurseries as well as local primary schools, while 150 pizza making kits were provided to children to encourage them to cook healthy food.

This week’s World Book Day was also celebrated with a number of children’s books wrapped up and left around Welshpool, Forden, Montgomery and Guilsfield for children to find on their way home from school.

If you have any friends or family in need of its doorstep service, please call 0345 611 6111 and select option 5 to place an order and it will be delivered the next day.
