Covid testing unit returns to Llanfyllin

21/04/2021 @ 12:48

Local residents suffering from the well-publicised symptoms of Covid-19 are still being urged to get a test despite the virus retreating from the Welshpool area.

As part of its efforts to mop up the last remaining local signs of the virus, Powys Teaching Health Board is dispatching its mobile testing unit to Llanfyllin on Monday.

The unit will be placed at Llanfyllin Town Council Car Park, High St, for residents to use across Montgomeryshire.

Mobile testing is by appointment-only and a drive-through service is provided. Residents can still access the national testing centre in Newtown where you can walk, drive or cycle for a test, and additional Community Testing Unit in Welshpool for drive-through appointments.

All of Wales is still in lockdown (alert level 4) but the current guidance includes:

  • Stay local rule lifted
  • Six people from six households can meet outdoors from April 24 (currently six people from two households)
  • Maintain social distancing
  • Wash your hands regularly
  • Work from home if you can
  • Wear a face covering in shops and other indoor public places, unless you have a reasonable excuse not to do so

Appointments for Llanfyllin can be booked through the UK Government national booking portal, either online at www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test, by phone on 119, or 18001 119 for people with hearing or speech difficulties. This is also the way to request a home testing kit.

Residents in the Welshpool area can also make an appointment at the Community Testing Unit by calling 01874 612228 or by emailing powys.testing@wales.nhs.uk.
