Remembering John with ‘CougStock’

05/07/2022 @ 10:15

There will be a big celebration of the life of a popular Welshpool character next month, whilst raising vital funds for those who cared for him during his battle with cancer.

John Jones sadly died last year just months after being diagnosed with bladder cancer, but with the lingering Covid-19 restrictions preventing a proper send off, the family is organising ‘CougStock’ on August 6 at The Westwood to raise money for the Welshpool District Nurses and Marie Curie.

“CougStock has been borne out of the idea of the Cougan family name, as John was the eldest son of ‘Charlie Cougan’ and was well known around Welshpool and the surrounding areas and his love of having a ‘party’ and enjoying himself, so his family have decided to arrange an event to raise money that he would love to have attended,” the family have told us in a statement.

“The Welshpool District Nurses and Marie Curie provided such invaluable home care for John to stay at home and therefore, his family would like to raise funds as a ‘thank-you’ for all their help and compassion at that sad time, and hopefully for others to experience the loving care provided to them all.”

John was born and brought up in Welshpool where he lived the majority of his adult life with his wife Denise and daughters, Hayley and Cheryl.

He loved music and entertainment and spent many a happy hour going to see ‘live music’ with his family and friends.

But in early 2021, John was diagnosed with bladder cancer and passed away in July 2021 with his loving family at his side.

The family would like to thank ‘Tich & Diane’ at The Westwood for hosting the event, not to mention the acts that will perform on the day.

“We are hoping for a fun filled afternoon and evening with lots of singing and dancing!” the family said.
