Welshpool Boxing Day hunt return cancelled
The Raven Inn announced yesterday that it would host the South Shropshire Hunt on Boxing Day, a year after the traditional Royal Oak hunt gathering was ended.
But there was a furious response online as both sides battled for the high ground on the hunting argument. There were even unconfirmed reports made online of threats to staff.
In the end, the Raven Inn decided it was too much of a decisive event to host and issued the following statement: “We will not be hosting the hunt on Boxing Day. I’m sorry for the amount of anger that this has created and I’m personally sad about all the nasty comments that have been said between people on both sides of the argument.
“The most compelling argument was from an anti-hunt FB page who simply asked us to reconsider in kind and non-abusive language. We were wrong, we have reconsidered and we will learn and move on. Merry Christmas.”
