New Mayor confirmed for Welshpool

Welshpool has a new Mayor, after Cllr Nick Howells was elected at the annual Welshpool Town Council meeting last night.

Cllr Howells was the only name put forward, drawing every vote from those councillors present, with Cllrs Carol Robinson,Hazel Evans and Phil Owen absent from the meeting.

He succeeds Cllr Alison Davies, who stands down after two active years in the role.

“I swear that I will give 100% and do the very best I can for the Town Council and Welshpool to move the town forward,” said Cllr Howells, who has come to prominence this past year by spearheading the successful community hub that has been operating at the Town Hall since last October.

The election for the Deputy Mayor saw Cllr Geoff Lanaghan win the vote after a challenge from councillors Chris Davies and Estelle Bleivas.
