Guilsfield school appoints new Head

Guilsfield Primary School appears to have bucked the worrying local trend of finding new headteachers by confirming their replacement this evening for Huw Jones, who retires next month.

The school has announced that local woman Amanda Williams will take the reins, commencing January 2024.

“Amanda comes to us with a wealth of knowledge and experience of primary education across local schools and communities in our catchment area and has been headteacher at Llandysilio Church in Wales Primary School for several years,” said Ian Harrison, Chair of the school’s Governing Body.

“We are currently working with the Local Authority team to put in place appropriate leadership cover during the transition period, commencing in September.

“Huw has created a thriving primary school with a team of professionals second to none in the county. We wish him a long and happy retirement from education.”

Last month we reported a growing problem facing local schools in finding permanent headteachers with a number of vacancies in the local catchment areas.
