Just days after opening the Wayne Evans Playing Fields, one of the volunteers behind the incredible effort to bring them to life has been recognised with a top award from the Football Association of Wales (FAW).

Welshpool Town Football Club and Juniors Secretary Eva Bredsdorff has been named the FAW Central Wales Volunteer of the Year 2023 following endless hours dedicated to the club which includes the senior team, Junior set-up and blossoming women’s team.

“She is such a brilliant, hardworking person who deserves any award going for her tireless effort on improving not only Welshpool Town Football Club on the whole, from juniors to seniors and ladies, but also on working to bring the community together,” said club Chair, Chris Roberts.

“She has improved links with the community in terms of working closer with Waterloo Rovers Football Club, the rugby club, the Town Council as well as Powys County Council and the FAW to ensure that Welshpool is on the map and we are able to move forward.

“She has an amazing knack of getting to the bottom of any issue that occurs and is a very professional and clever lady who is extremely well organised and methodical in her thinking.

“But above all of this, she is a kind and gentle person who has a heart of gold.”

In a post on its social media channel, Welshpool Town Ladies said they were “so proud”.

Eva, originally from Denmark, moved to Welshpool over 30 years ago and was in charge of the Powysland Museum for a number of years, but has always been a staunch supporter of the football club, joining the committee and becoming a key part of the community effort that created the Wayne Evans Playing Fields that were officially opened on Sunday.
