The Welshpool area was drenched by a month’s worth of rain falling in just 24 hours, it has been revealed.
Storm Babet has wreaked havoc over the past three days with roads and schools closed and services disrupted as relentless rain lashed down, leading to the local rivers and brooks bursting their banks.
But last night, Powys County Council’s Highways, Transport and Recycling Service shared a graph highlighting why.
“Just to put events into context, here’s a graph showing the rainfall gauge for Welshpool,” a spokesperson said: “So far this month, already, we have seen 141mm of rainfall here. And, we have just had almost a month’s worth of average rainfall (60mm) in the last 24 hours.”
The dryer weather today will lead to more roads becoming passable as the flood waters recede, but the advice is to check before travel with the North Powys Community Travel Alerts Facebook page doing another excellent job of sharing information.
