We are in for a stormy night

The Welshpool area is on the eastern edge of an amber wind warning issued by the Met Office with Storm Isha thundering its way towards us from the Atlantic Ocean tonight.

Following a cold, but dry, period of weather, the storm is bringing winds that could reach 80mph tonight, with problems anticipated for Monday rush hour.

The widespread warning comes into play at 6pm tonight, and will stay in place at the moment until 9am tomorrow.

There is also the risk of flooding at the usual trouble spots with Natural Resources Wales warning: “The storm may lead to flooding in certain areas of Wales so we’re advising people to stay up to date with the latest flood warnings and alerts on our website or by phoning Floodline on 0345 988 1188.”

Looking further ahead, Powys County Council’s Highways, Transport and Recycling Service warns that there “looks to be another storm brewing in the Atlantic, after Storm Isha has passed”.

In a social media post yesterday, they state: “Too early to say yet, but, this could be Storm Jocelyn, which will bring strong winds to North Wales on Tuesday and Wednesday.”

Storm Isha is the ninth named storm since September, and is expected to be particularly felt in Northern and Western Scotland.
