Welshpool Town Council set to streamline for “better delivery”

09/05/2025 @ 08:49

The number of Welshpool Town Council sub-committees is set to be reduced from eight to five, with their size to be reduced from 10 councillors down to seven.

The initial plans were approved this week by the Strategy, Property and Development Committee after Richard Williams, the new Town Clerk appointed last month, said they just weren’t effective enough.

In a lengthy report to councillors, Mr Williams concluded that the changes would allow for “smaller focussed meetings for better delivery”.

The Audit and Health & Safety committees will move to quarterly meetings while the three newly created standing committees will still meet monthly on Wednesday nights from 6.30pm, instead of 7.15pm.

Under the plans, councillors will only be able to sit on two of the three standing committees, but are expected to sit on at least one. It is also hoped that more decision-making powers will be placed in the hands of the sub-committees to put less burden on waiting for full council decisions.

The new streamilined sub-committee plan will be put before full council at the end of the month for final approval after it was approved by the committee.
