Welshpool Carnival is shaping up to be another fun day out later this month, but don’t expect too many floats in the street parade, we are being warned.
With an array of activities set for the carnival field on June 22, the town can look forward to plenty of things to do, and while Welshpool Town Council expects the parade to be a colourful occasion, it appears concerns over health and safety is putting organisations off from running a float.
At this week's Events and Planning Committee meeting, events officer Kimberly Wright explained that everything was on track with a good response to the call for local bands and artists to perform on the day.
But there was a downside to the update.
“Things are going really well, but there’s not as many lorries as I would have liked in the parade,” she said. “I think health and safety plays a big part in that, but hopefully a big amount of walkers, groups and organisations that join (the parade) will make up for that.”
She confirmed that the parade would start from outside Andrew’s Fish Shop at noon, and head straight down the town to Maesydre.
Activities will continue throughout the afternoon until 5pm.
