A Welshpool group of eateries has come up trumps this summer holidays, providing free food for children for its entire duration.
The Inglenook Café, The Nook Sandwich Bar and Andrews Fish Bar are ensuring that on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays there is free food for kids in a wonderful community gesture that is already proving popular.
During the first week of the holidays, Corey and his excellent team served up over 250 free meals and they hope the number will grow as the word spreads.
“We had good response so far, and did over 250 free meals in the first week and it’s getting out there more now so hopefully the numbers will go up,” said Corey.
“We want to help families and to try to bring the community together by showing if groups and businesses stand together then big changes can happen, and to put hope back in to people’s lives.”
Corey explained that he hopes to work with like-minded businesses through the summer to expand the scheme and also support the town’s youth club, run by The Feathers Association.
“I am really hoping that we can inspire the whole community to get on side. I’ve got a letter that I want to send out to all the companies to show what a few brilliant and caring staff can achieve, so if we all pull together and join forces we can make a difference.”
How does it work?
The Kids Eat Free initiative runs throughout the school summer holidays with The Inglenook Café, The Nook Sandwich Bar and Andrews Fish Bar participating.
On Mondays, Children Under 14 can enjoy a free picnic box including a sandwich, crisps, chocolate bar and fruit pot from The Nook Sandwich Bar.
On Tuesdays, The Inglenook Café is serving a free sausage or bacon bap and, on Wednesday lunch times, there is a cone of chips and small sausage available. The initiative returns to the Inglenook Café on Thursdays for another bacon or sausage bap offer for the Under 14s.
