Welshpool’s iconic Town Hall Clock is once again keeping the correct time and sounding its bells after a period of silence.
Time stood still in the town after the much-loved landmark, situated at the heart of the town, experienced ongoing faults which meant both the clock and its chimes were out of action.
Thanks to specialist repairs, the clock is now fully operational – with its hands showing the right time and its bells ringing out across the town once more.
The delay in bringing the clock back into action was due to emergency repair works undertaken by the Town Council to make the clock tower safe.
While carrying out these works, investigations revealed that the clock hands will need repair in the near future and that the 125-year-old mechanism is beginning to show signs of wear after an incredible 1.3 million hours of continuous operation.
“The Town Council thanks residents for their patience during the repair period and will continue to monitor the condition of the historic clock,” said a spokesperson.
