Three sheep have been killed and a further two have had their ears ripped off during a horrific dog attack that happened in Welshpool over the weekend.
Welshpool police have shared pictures showing the terrible injuries suffered by the sheep in the Llanerchydol Park area sometime between 9.30am on Saturday and 7am on Sunday. We have included just one of them here with the others too graphic, but they can be viewed on the station's Facebook page.
Three Welsh Mule ewes were killed, two were injured, including ears being bitten and torn off, and two Texel rams were injured in the attack.
Livestock worrying is a criminal offence and comes under the Dogs (Protection of Livestock) Act 1953, so police have launched an investigation to find the killer dog, or dogs, and the owner.
“This isn’t just a threat to a farmer or land owner’s livelihood, it’s also a dangerous situation for the animals involved, and could lead to more risk if the animals get onto the road,” a police spokesperson said.
“Under certain circumstances dogs found worrying or attacking livestock can be shot so always keep your dog under control around other animals.
“Regardless of rights of ways, common sense should be applied when considering taking your dog(s) onto land containing livestock.”
Police have asked that anyone with information should contact them, and have also asked that should a member of the public see livestock worrying taking place, they should, if possible, take mobile phone footage and/or photos.
