Did you answer University Challenge’s Welshpool question?

There was a surprise for local quiz fans on Christmas Eve when Welshpool featured on the BBC’s University Challenge!

Regarded as TV’s toughest quiz team tournament, Amol Rajan asks the questions as students from across the UK face the most fiendish of tests.

And there was a question that we reckon many of the town’s residents may have struggled with.

The programme pitted the alumni students of Keble University – Oxford with their counterparts from Hull University.

As the former academics went toe-to-toe, the Keble crew were stumped by the following question under a ‘national trails’ category:

“Glyndwr’s Way runs between Knighton and which town in Powys on the River Severn?” asked the rapid-fire host.

The four-member team were left floundering for an answer before one was nominated to incorrectly say “Chirk”.

“Welshpool!” the host immediately corrected as the quiz moved on.

The programme is screening a number of heats featuring alumni over the Christmas period before reaching a final later in the week.
