Welshpool Town Council is seeking volunteers to support the Welshpool Community Fridge, a new initiative aimed at reducing food waste and supporting the local community
The Community Fridge is expected to open at the Town Hall in the next couple of weeks and will provide a space where surplus food can be shared for free rather than wasted, helping both the environment and residents across Welshpool.
As preparations continue ahead of the launch, volunteers are needed to help ensure the project gets off to a successful start.
They will play a key role in the day-to-day running of the Community Fridge, including helping with food collections, organising the fridge, and welcoming members of the public. No previous experience is required - just enthusiasm and a willingness to help.
Seed money for the project has come from Welshpool county and town councillor, Richard Church, who secured £2,500 from Powys County Council as part of the Councillors Anti-Poverty Fund.
A spokesperson for Welshpool Town Council, who will manage the project, said: “We are excited to launch Welshpool Community Fridge. To help make this project a success, we are looking for volunteers who can spare a little time each week to help reduce food waste and support our community.”
Anyone interested in volunteering is encouraged to get in touch to find out more and be part of this new community initiative from the very beginning.
How it works:
· Simply pop in and take what you need.
· If you have food to share, ensure it is in-date and safely packaged.
· Take only what you need so there’s plenty for everyone.
