Adele, we are all right behind you!

14/02/2026 @ 06:05

When Welshpool’s Adele Nicoll steps out into the Winter Olympic spotlight tomorrow (Sunday), she will do so with the support of the entire area.

The 29-year-old’s incredible story has been an absolute pleasure for us all here at MyWelshpool to share with you over the past 15 years, and her dream will come true in the Italian resort of Cortina when she makes history as the first Team GB athlete to compete in the Monobob.

The event starts at 9am, UK time, and she will have two runs vying for a top 10 place to be in a good position for the final two heats on Monday.

The town has thrown its weight behind Adele, with the Mayor, Cllr Phil Owen, recognising the “dedication, determination and inspiration she brings to the local community”.

Schools and even residential homes have also posted good luck messages, and last night we spoke to her proud mum, Justine, who has arrived in Cortina to cheer on her girl.

“I have had the essential Games nails done, and my flags and little cow bell are at the ready!” said Justine.

“Paul (dad) will be cheering and supporting her from home, as he has work commitments in London, but he won’t miss her races!

“I have spoken to Adele and she is really enjoying her time in the Olympic Village. She’s happy. I think every parent wants their child to be happy ultimately, and knowing she has worked so hard to become an Olympian, makes myself and Paul very happy.

“It’s the greatest gift she could give us. I am looking forward to the big hug I get after her races, regardless of the result. That’s just the best!

“We are all absolutely overwhelmed by the support. She has had hundreds of good luck messages from the residents of Welshpool, the wider area, across Wales and internationally.

“She’s also had some lovely video messages from the local schools, the local residential homes and friends and family, lovely keepsakes for her.

“She values them all, as do Paul and I. A very big thank you to everyone, it means a lot. It’s nearly time!”

Adele is competing in two events at Milano Cortina 2026, and will follow on from this weekend’s Monobob by competing in next weekend’s two-woman Bobsleigh.

This is when you can watch her in action (UK times):

Monobob heats 1 & 2 - Sunday, February 15 - event start time 9am

Monobob heats 3 & 4 - Monday, February 16 - event start time 6pm

Two-woman heats 1 & 2 - Friday, February 20- event start time 5pm

Two-woman heats 3 & 4 – Saturday, February 21- event start time 6pm

All entered sleds compete in the first three heats. Only the top 20 ranked sleds based on the combined times of heats 1-3 qualify for the final fourth heat.
