Former Ysgol Llanfyllin pupil-turned-football coach Eric Ramsey has seen his dream entry into British football management turn into a nightmare after getting the sack at West Bromwich Albion after just nine games.
The 34-year-old is widely regarded as one of the game’s rising coaching stars, but his stock has taken a massive hit after just 44 days in the Championship club’s hot seat.
After senior spells with Manchester United and Wales, Ramsey went across the Atlantic to guide Minnesota United to their best season in the MLS.
But after failing to win any of his eight league games in charge, and being knocked out of the FA Cup, the West Brom hierarchy has acted fast as they hover one place above the relegation zone.
The club released a statement after last night’s 1-1 draw with Charlton that read: “West Bromwich Albion have parted company with men’s first-team head coach Eric Ramsay.
“Assistant head coach Dennis Lawrence has also departed The Hawthorns.
“The club would like to place on record its thanks to Eric and Dennis and wishes them well for the future.”
It won’t all be bad news though. Ramsay signed a two-and-a-half-year deal back in January, and in football that usually has to be paid up if the manager is sacked.
