Welshpool boxer-turned-hyrox champion Warren ‘BigRig’ Sinden pushed himself through the darkest depths of his physical and mental limits to complete an unbelievable fundraising challenge in the town yesterday.
Warren took on the 100km SkiErg challenge, using a skiing simulator in his Rigorous Gym at The Quarry to complete the incredible distance in what is thought to be the second fastest time record by a British athlete.
It was initially thought he had set a new British record but, last night, as he was reflecting on his monumental achievement, it was discovered that a quicker time of 6hrs 48mins 12.7secs was recorded by a Brit last week.
“I am absolutely gutted. This hurts a bit but not as much as my blisters do!” said Warren. “But it is what it is I guess! I am proud of what I did yesterday with all the support that we had down there. It was incredible.
“To even finish is one hell of an achievement. Thanks for all the support yesterday, it was an amazing atmosphere in the gym!”
Warren was raising money for the Parkinson’s UK Cymru 10x10k Challenge which officially got underway with a fundraising Gala Dinner on Friday night at The Royal Oak (more on that tomorrow).
The link to donate is here, and its lead organiser, Philip Jones, was in awe of what Warren achieved.
“It was unbelievable to see Warren and what he achieved for the 10x10k Challenge,” he said. “He didn’t even stop to take on food or drink. He was a machine and it was also good to see the gym packed with supporters cheering him on. Thank-you Warren so much.”
The March 10x10k Challenge events get underway next Sunday (March 8) with the first 10km run leaving Morrisons in Welshpool at 3pm, and finishing at Coco’s. You can just turn up to take part.
