10x10kx£10,000!

The 10x10 March Challenge which is being supported by MyWelshpool has smashed through the £10,000 barrier for Parkinson’s UK Cymru.

And the challenge still has over a week to go before the final run at the Welshpool 10k on Sunday, March 22.

Founder Philip Jones (pictured in the middle) said that a donation from Halls on Friday afternoon had sent the money raised to date past the £10k mark following the first week of events that have seen dozens of people accept the challenge.

“We initially set our target for £8,000 as we are all equally aware of the economic times. The response to the challenge has been immense and not only have we exceeded our expectations this year, but we have raised over £40,000 for the charity over the three years,” said Philip.

Following on from the success of the inaugural Gala Ball, record number of supporters have been turning up at the scheduled runs to help raise the awareness of the condition.

“We have made changes to the concept this year with rest days and alternative sessions at Great Fitness Gym as well as adapting our programme as schools and colleges have had Estyn Inspection teams visiting their provisions,” added Philip. “But that freshness has only added to the Challenge.

“We have a number of individual totals to add to the final total after the Welshpool 10k next week and suddenly £14,000 appears to be a realistic aim.”

You can donate to the challenge here.
