Llanfair Caereinion will invest a large chunk of its £83,000 cash windfall on a new Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) in the town.

Last week, it was announced that every town in Powys would receive the money as part of a £1.5m Pride in Place fund distributed by Powys County Council which Welshpool confirmed it will be pumped into town centre enhancements.

And now Llanfair Caereinion has revealed where its money will be invested, with local residents expected to be very happy. Montgomery and Llanfyllin have also secured similar funding.

A spokesperson told us: “The Town Council is now progressing the project, having secured funding to deliver the scheme. The overall phased development will include:

• A new Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA);

• A replacement storage building, removing the need for existing storage containers; and

• A resurfaced and reconfigured car park designed to improve layout and increase the number of available parking spaces.”

Chair of the Town Council, Cllr Melvin Jones, welcomed the news, stating: “This is a great day for a small town like Llanfair Caereinion. This funding will make a big difference in the town’s ability to deliver a major project.”

During 2025, the Town Council undertook a full public consultation on its Place Making Plan, working with an independent consultant. The plan was formally adopted on May 19 2025 and is available on the Town Council website under Documents / Policies and Plans.

The consultation identified strong community support for the development of a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA), particularly at Mount Field, which looks set to be delivered.
