No, it’s not a mirage, Powys County Council has dispatched the gritters during the current glorious hot spell!
While the area basks in sensational sunshine and breath-taking blue skies, the council is planning ahead and has explained why their winter fleet is out and about.
“Our highways teams are currently carrying out trial runs of the new winter service routes ahead of their introduction later this year,” a spokesperson said.
“The exercises help test route timings, fuel and salt requirements and ensure drivers are familiar with the new network before winter arrives.
“Don't worry – these are planned trials and not a response to the weather!”
It comes as Wales is set to record its highest ever temperature for June today following England’s 36.1 notched up in the south.
While most of us are loving the weather, it comes with a warning for those who may not be so happy with the hot spell. There’s plenty of advice on line for pets, elderly and the vulnerable with the usual warnings in place for outdoor cooking and taking care around wild water.
Storms are expected as we head to the weekend so make the most of it and take care, before you know it the gritters will be back!
